Did you know that the round-the-world record for a sailing boat is faster than that for a motor boat? Well, it is.
50 days, 16 hours and 20 minutes for the sailors aboard the maxi catamaran Orange II (seen below on another record which they also hold).
60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes for the petrolheads aboard the futuristic trimaran Earthrace.
More astounding of all, however, is the 57 days, 13 hours and 34 minutes which constitutes the solo sailing record, set by super-Frenchman Francis Joyon on the fabulous Idec II.
Yep, that's one bloke, all by his lonesome, circling the world on a sailboat a neat three days and ten hours faster than a full crew in the most advanced motor boat the industry can come up with. How cool is that?
